Rising Sun River Dragon

I backed this on Kickstarter last year and received the pack (ahead of schedule) this year. CMON have done a number of board games over recent years and have established a solid reputation for miniature quality.

Generally speaking there’s usually one or two models that will grab my attention and get me into a particular system/game/army. In the case of the Deadzone Kickstarter it was the Helfather and the Orx Marauder Captain. For Rising Sun the ones that piqued my interest where the Lotus Clan Shinto and the incredible River Dragon.

CMON’s creative team of Eric Lang (game designer) and Adrian Smith (artist) plus all of the graphic design and sculpting talent have really knocked it out of the park with Rising Sun. The whole production value is excellent and the additional Kickstarter exclusive components are gorgeous, adding an extra tactile element to the game.

The River Dragon, like most of the monsters in the game, is a beast of a model, full of detail and posed beautifully.

This is the first stage of the model. I filled the few minor gaps with green stuff and allowed that to set overnight before undercoating with black spray. Once the undercoat was dry I put a thin layer of grey (Vallejo Game Colour Light Grey) on, making sure to cover the undercoat. This took two thinned coats. Once that was dry I then washed the model with blue wash (very old Citadel Blue Wash) and this is the result. The plan now is to work up the blues and whites before working on the details. More progress updates when that’s done.
